This report is a novel attempt to fill in the information and methodological gap in national and international annual greenhouse gas net emission estimations for the purpose of reporting to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), in relation to CO2 uptake in cement-containing products. Presently, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) does not provide any methodology for estimations of concrete carbonation as a CO2 sink. However, the Working Group I of the IPCC 6th Assessment Report recognizes the importance of CO2 uptake in cement net emission accounting. In this study, methodologies for calculation of CO2 uptake in concrete products have been developed in line with the proposed methods for IPCC Tier 1, 2 and 3. The study include uptake in primary concrete products as well as in end-of-life processes and in secondary use.
