Scientists from Swedish Environmental Research Institute (IVL), Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI), University of Gothenburg and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) have made an updated economic evaluation of the negative consequences of groundlevel ozone on forest- and agricultural production in Sweden. The analysis was made based on three different ozone scenarios: 1. Current ozone concentrations (2006-2012). 2. A scenario where the target value used within the Swedish Environmental Objectives, 10 000 ?g/m 3 hours AOT40 April-September, is not exceeded anywhere in Sweden 3. A pre-industrial scenario where AOT40 April-September was zero all over Sweden. The economic evaluation was made for the ozone impacts on forest and agricultural production, where scenarios 1 and 2 above were compared to the pre-industrial ozone scenario. Based on new scientific knowledge since the previous report (Karlsson et al., 2006), a revised value for the negative impacts of ozone on the growth rates of Norway spruce and Scots pine was suggested, from -2 % to -5 % per 20000 ?g/m 3 hours AOT40 Apr-Sept. AOT40 Apr-Sept 20000 ?g/m3 hours is a common value for vegetation ozone exposure in southern Sweden. For deciduous trees, the previously used value of for ozone growth was suggested to remain at -8 % per 20000 ?g/m3 hours AOT40 Apr-Sept. The dose-response relationships for wheat used within the Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution (LRTAP) have to some extent been updated since 2006. These updated relationships were used is this new study. However, the differences as compared to previous versions are small. The current ozone concentrations 2006-2012 were estimated to reduce the forest growth in Sweden as a summed value across all regions and tree species by 2.9 Mm 3 yr-1, corresponding to a growth reduction of -3.2 %. Across different regions and tree species, these values ranged -1.6 - -4.9 %. In the scenario where the target value used within the Swedish Environmental Objectives was not exceeded, the mean growth corresponded to a growth reduction of -1.2 %, ranging -0.6 – 2.1 %. Taken together the estimated economic value of forest growth reductions and agricultural crop yield losses due to current ozone concentrations in Sweden 2006-2012 were estimated to 913 MSEK/yr . The corresponding value for the scenario where the target value for ozone within the Swedish Environmental Objectives was not exceeded was 367 MSEK/yr. The estimates were made by comparison with the pre-industrial ozone levels, where the ozone concentrations never exceeded 80 ?g/m3 (40 ppb). This report is only available in Swedish.
