Abstract [en]

With cities worldwide expected to growan estimated 2 billion residents by 2050,there is an urgent need for urban watermanagement that ensures consistent,adequate and high-quality water servicesfor all and protects citizens from waterrelateddisasters. However, the scaleand complexity of this need presentsnew challenges to decision-makers ingovernment, civil society and the privatesector.

The City Water Resilience Approach(CWRA) responds to a demand forinnovative approaches and tools that helpcities build water resilience at the urbanscale. The CWRA was developed to helpcities grow their capacity to provide highquality water resources for all residents, toprotect them from water-related hazards,and to connect them through water-basedtransportation networks (“provide, protect,connect”). It provides a robust, evidencebasedapproach to resilience assessmentand development of an action plan.
